Memorable Moments from the Class of 2007-2008

Well, I have two moments that I will always remember. One is when I received my GED on April 8, 2008. It was a very precious moment for me. The second one was in January. On the 4th day of January, I was announced student of the week. I was honored that Bonnie and Ryan thought of me and seen the effort I was putting into everything I was doing in school. - Terra Pouncy

My most memorable moment was when we went on the high ropes on our final retreat at the YMCA Winnebago Camp. I also enjoyed getting to know my other classmates. - Brandon Bunch

The most positive memorable moment I’ve had since YouthBuild is when Steve and Mandy came to all my court dates and made me look good for the judge. If they wouldn’t have gone to my court dates, I wouldn’t be here right now. - Terry Harris

My most memorable moment was when we went to Camp Winnebago. We had to climb a 35 foot pole and then swing all the way down. I’m afraid of heights, so I was terrified, but I overcame my fear and got up there. It was a fun moment because now I know that I can do anything if I just don’t hold back and quit. - Terrell Anderson

My most memorable moment was the day I was enrolled in Rock Valley College. It mad me realize this is the beginning of a new character in my career. - Elise Matthews

My most memorable moment is the first retreat we went on. It was an exciting place that we never been before. We went fishing, (I didn’t catch any) hiking, team building and oh the food they made for us was the bomb. - Cassie Panazzo

The best time I had at YouthBuild is in Construction. I never thought building a house would be so fun. At first I thought it was hard, but it was pretty easy. I also like the fact that we get out early on Fridays. - Rondell Tilson

My most memorable moment last year was doing community service at the food pantry. We had about 13 pellets of frozen meat to send through and only two hours to do it. We basically turned it into a game and Jason, Justin, Terra, Kenny and I, basically everyone from team D, finished it in about an hour and a half. The ladies at the pantry thanked us for all the help and fed us. We just hung out with them until Patrick came to pick us up. - Studge Parham

My most memorable moment since I started YouthBuild was when I found out I scored a perfect score on one of my GED test. That let me know that I was the only one holding me back. Then when I took my last 2 tests and received my GED certificate, I really knew my life was changing for the good. Ever since I have been going forward and not looking back, I must say it feels GREAT!! However, I didn’t do it alone. I did it with the YouthBuild staff and trainee’s help, so thank you to all of you. - Barbara Gills
